BELLS OF IRELAND (Moluccella laevis) So named because of the delicious green color of the bell-shaped calyces surrounding the insignificant white flowers of this heirloom. Lightly scented. Actually native to the Molucca Islands of Indonesia. Extremely nice for cutting, but like poppies, you must seal the ends with a flame before vasing. Also, good for drying as Color and shape are preserved nicely. Half-hardy annual, 18-36" tall. 30 seeds.
GROWING TIPS: Sow seed directly after danger of frost or start indoors (55 to 64 degrees) with germination at about 20-35 days. Then transplant after hardening off in a sunny position, back of the border. Does well in maritime locations. Also good container plant and since these don't like hot and humid weather, you can put them out in the spring and bring them in for summer show. These are stand outs!
