AGRIMONY (Agrimonia Eupatoria), also known as Church Steeples, Cockeburr and Sticklewort. A member of the rose family, Agrimony is an ancient medicinal herb from the English Isles, named from the Greek "Argemone" for healing to the eyes and after King Eupator, renowned herbalist. MEDICINAL: Mild astringent and liver tonic. Infusions are useful in treating coughs and in relaxing bowels. North American Indians used it to treat fever. As a tea it is fragrant and mild. Its essential oils are composed of 5 percent tannin, which makes it useful for dressing leather. It also produces a pretty yellow dye.
GROWING TIPS: A slow germinator, so start indoors in winter, harden off and plant in sunny to partial sunny position in the garden. Likes regular watering.
