DI VERONA RADICCHIO is a fine Italian heirloom from Verona. Brilliant red tight-balled heads. Gourmet quality. Radicchio is a type of chicory. A perennial but grown as a annual. Radicchio is used in salads, fried, or grilled. Wonderful as an ingredient in Risotto. 67 days from transplant. 25 seeds.
GROWING TIPS: Radicchio grows best during the cool months of spring, fall and even over-winters in certain climates. If allowed to mature during the heat of summer, it will turn bitter. A good container plant, or grown inbetween other vegetables, it should be direct seeded outside for successive crops every two weeks from mid-summer, through fall and then again in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Sow 1 or 2 seeds every 4", 1/4" deep. Thin to one every 8" once they are established. I have found that transplants have a tendency to early bolting.

If there is a need for more time, as in the case of resupply or early 2008 initial supply, you will be advised at time of purchase and shipped as soon as possible. In the event an item becomes unavailable or temporarily out of stock I will offer you a chance to substitute another selection or refund you immediately. I package my seeds for shipping in a manner appropriate to the amount and type of seed - larger orders and larger seeds require more packaging. I also combine multiple orders of the same seed variety, where practical, in one envelope unless you request otherwise. This is an ecological measure, not a cost-saving one.
