Roger Gandelman has been a glass artist for 30 years, specializing for most of that time in creating the most exquisite art glass perfume bottles I have seen! His work is displayed in museums and museums shops around the country including the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. His bottles, though small in scale, make a grand statement - elegant treasures made to be turned, touched and admired for their unique beauty and grace. There are very few sharp angles. Gandelman's work is organic, smooth and achingly familiar, making you want to look and look and look! Gandelman uses both furnace and torch techniques. Colored glass is applied to a clear glass surface to build the flowers. The piece is then encased in more clear glass to achieve a multi-layered 3D optical effect. The flowers appear suspended in the glass. Another technique he uses is to apply exterior lustres while the glass is still molton. The bottle is then cut and polished using diamond grinding equipment to open up windows in the glass, exposing the interior decoration. All the glassmaking is performed in Gandelman's studio, unassisted. Timeless designs, timeless artisanship. An heirloom treasure!
