Description
GARDEN PEACH TOMATO (Solanum lycopersicum) is an ancient heirloom in its native Peru, where it is called "Cucunas," whose most notable physical feature is the slightly fuzzy yellow/pink blushed skin that makes it look like a small peach (see comparison photo with real peach fruit on left and bowl of peach tomatoes on right). But another unique quality is its remarkable storage life - when brought in at the end of season these tomatoes will slowly ripen over several months - providing you lots of delicious juicy tomatoes throughout the winter. Another wonderful feature of this tomato is that it is rich in Iron and Vitamin B5, and some studies have shown that it may lower cholesterol! This unusual tomato is definitely worth growing! (One of CherryGal's must grow top 5) Indeterminate and very prolific grower and producer that can reach 9 feet. A truly unique and delicious treat! 75-80 days from transplant. 10 seeds.
CULINARY: A pleasant feature is how easily the skin peels off this juicy tom when fully ripe. The blushed pink color remains in the flesh. This is not only a fine tomato for all kinds of sauces, but a good candidate for chutney and drying. I like it in a slowly simmered sauce of butter, olive oil, lots of garlic, white mushrooms, white eggplant, basil, bay leaf and some parmesan, served on white angel hair pasta -- a heavenly melange!
