Antique genuine Gould & Hart lithograph of Tanysiptera Danae, Sharpe (Crimson and Brown Kingfishers) . This is the real deal, which I have kept in my personal collection for many years, having acquired from a local estate. John Gould was an amazing ornithologist who produced many of the most treasured books on birds ever done. Ironically, he was the expert, but not the artist. Instead he hired the best wildlife artists of his time (which included his wife, Elizabeth, as well as Joseph Wolf, Edward Lear and William Hart . When Gould died in 1881, his assistant, R. Bowdler Sharpe, finished his work and as noted, this is a Sharpe. Colors are vibrant and crisp and it is in excellent condition noting the slight foxing lower left and very light water stain lower right as shown. The price reflects these minor imperfections, but this is a very rare print. Image measures 14" x 22" and the frame 22" x 30". It is tastefully double matted. Non-glare glass. This is a treasure. I am an experienced shipper and will take greatest care in getting this rare artifact to you without harm. But because of the cost of shipping, and especially because of the glass, I could not trust a buyer to return in the same condition sent (not to mention the cost of shipping on a return) so this is a FINAL sale with no return available, but I do not think you will be disappointed.

Now Shipping ...

Items listed as "Ships Now" ship within 1-2 business days (non-holiday Monday-Friday). We reserve the option to hold small seed orders when a variety (as noted on the listing as "coming") is not yet in until the order can be filled completely. For larger orders, we ship what is available and back-order the remainder. Live plants ship when weather and your zone permit. By the way, once your order leaves our hands it will be in the hands of the shipping carrier, usually USPS, which is experiencing delays due to high volume. If you have any questions, please email us using the contact link on the website. Thank you!

Why not visit our smaller collection on Etsy? You will get free shipping with your order of $35 or more!
