GREEN YARD LONG BEAN (Vigna unguiculata) also known as Snake Bean, Chinese Long Bean and Asparagus Bean. (We also offer a red version called Red Noodle.) Not really a yard long, more like a foot or so, the beans are thin, round, stringless and tender with full flavor. So easy and great to add to the wok for stir fry as you can line up a handful and cut very quickly. My neighbor has grown these for years and they are delicious. Very productive here in North Carolina, which makes sense as they are related to black eyed peas, a Southern staple. Cooler climates will lose some of that productivity. A climber, it needs support. 78 days. 25 Seeds.
HEALTH BENEFITS: High in fiber, beans of any kind should be a daily part of your diet as they are colon protectors and help to reduce LDL cholesterol. Packed with nutrients, beans are rich in folates, Vitamins B and A, and minerals such as iron, copper, manganese, calcium, and magnesium. Be sure to add some type of bean to your diet every day for optimum health!
HOW TO GROW: When soil temps are 60 degrees, plant 3" apart and 1" deep. Provide support. So easy. Harvest when beans are 12" long.
