Description
UCHIKI KURI SQUASH, also known as Red Kuri, is a beautiful Japanese specialty squash that produces small, red teardrop-shaped winter squash with sweet and nutty flesh. This is indistinguishable from the French Potimarron. Very productive and can be trellis-trained if you provide slings for the fruits. Fruits average 3 lbs. Popular in soups, stir fries and pies, but oh so delicious just roasted plain. 100 days. 15 seeds.
GROWING TIPS: All squash require warm soil, between 70-90 degrees (use a soil thermometer). Plant 6-8 seeds 1" deep and 3-4" apart in hills in full sun. Water moderately, but withhold water in final week before harvest so the sugar content becomes concentrated.
