Description
COUVE TRONCHUDA (Brassica oleracea) is an heirloom cabbage from Portugal, coming into much favor for its incredibly large but delicate leaves with delicious sweet and mild flavor. The plants are open, not heading, and very large, so you should give it plenty of room (one plant per 4' bed), but you may find you need only one in the home garden as you can harvest the outer leaves all Summer and Fall. In fact, this is a great reason to grow this brassica, as it does not bold or succumb in heat. Like all brassicas, you will start indoors in Spring and transfer to the garden when last frost has passed. Once frost threatens in the Fall, pull the whole plant as it will not tolerate frost or freeze. Since it will dominate a 4 x 4 raised bed, use the corners to grow herbs (catnip, dill, chives, borage) that will repel aphids and other unwelcome visitors. 25 Seeds. LIMIT: One per customer
