MARA DES BOIS STRAWBERRY (Fragaria vesca) is an everbearing French-bred strawberry with wonderful fragrance, an attractive rounded shape, and delicious flavor. I saw someone on YouTube pick an obviously unripe one for a taste test and he was unimpressed. I have grown these for several years and if you wait for full ripeness, they are unsurpassed with a juicy luscious full flavor. They do not store or ship well, which is why you will not find these in supermarkets. But precisely why specialty chefs, farmers markets and home gardeners love them! They do kick out runners, so even 3-5 plants in a window-style box will not only provide you with fruit this year, but subsequent new plants for seasons to come. Mine weather winters here in Zone 7B quite well, with no cover. You will get one plant lifted at shipping time bareroot in moist medium. I recommend buying multiples to get you started.
