Description
An historic Chinese medicinal, Astragalus has immune-stimulating effects and may help to reduce side effects from chemotherapy. It has not been shown to treat or prevent cancer. It works by stimulating several factors of the immune system but should only be used in consulting with your oncologist. Other uses suggested by lab studies include heart protective properties, diabetes, general strengthening. Caution since it is immune enhancing and has estrogenic effects, may impact bleeding risks, blood pressure and diuretics. A tap-rooted herbaceous perennial, it thrives in well-drained soil in the full sun to partial shade. To grow, scarify the seed and plant in pots or directly in the ground. Since it is a member of the legume family, inoculation may improve germination. Barely cover seed, tamp in and water gently until germination within 1-3 weeks. Transplant 1 foot apart. 10 Seeds.
