HEAVENLY BLUE MORNING GLORY (Ipomoea rubrocoerulea) is my all-time favorite morning glory and one I remember from childhood growing along a white picket fence in our neighborhood. The beautiful blooms 3"-6" wide and are especially heavenly when the morning sun hits that saucer-shaped true blue disc with pale creamy yellow center and throat. Although they are an annual in cooler climates, they are perennial in warmer zones. Blooms in mid-late summer to fall when they burst forth with radiant color much appreciated among the golds and reds of autumn. After all these years of growing, I still catch my breath when they are in full display. Annual. 50 seeds. Please note: Cannot ship to Arizona.
GROWING TIPS: After danger of last frost, scarify and then soak the seeds prior to planting, but beyond that, don't fuss! In fact, the less you do the happier they seem to be. Vines grow 8-10' or more if given support and will cover a trellis or arbor handily. Don't fertilize this one - but they do prefer a neutral to sweet soil, so if horticultural lime is necessary, by all means. Did you know that morning glories are fairly accurate predictors of weather? They are wide open when the weather is fair and when they shut rain and foul weather are on the way.
