Rare Vintage Hand Painted Musical Jewelry Box by Sankyo is beautifully decorated on the cover with two cats in a colorfully decorated setting. Signed by artist M Kashiyagi. This is a Japanese wooden box with musical component that plays, appropriately, "Memories" from the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical "Cats" which premiered in 1980, so that is the likely time frame for this box. Measures 7.75" x 6.25" x 3.25". The interior lid is mirrored and there are 3 compartments -- one deep, one shallow and one divided for rings. The box has round feet. The bottom displays the original Sankyo stickers, reading "B-344-054" and the caution "Do Not Overwind." Condition is excellent noting its vintage used provenance: light darkening of the interior, minor bumps and wear to the edges of the box. The painting on the top is excellent with no notations. It is signed lower left "M Kashiyagi."
